Humility and Obedience

To begin with, our nature is that we are prideful people, no one is humble by nature. We cannot be meek. We are not made that way. We want to stand on our own two feet and have our little say. All of us are like that. None of us wants to be offended. None of us wants to be ignored. We develop hang -ups if we are brought up in such a way that we have been trampled on.

But there was a person who live on earth for 33 years, and walk all His life with humility and obedience to the father, His name was Jesus Christ. He left heaven's  glory. He came down and down to this earth, all the way we are. We cannot even conceived of what a big step it was from heaven's glory all the way to earth. Absolutely, it is beyond human comprehension to understand what our Lord really did for us. (Phil. 2:7-8) says-"but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a men, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross". You and  I  have been humbled by someone doing or saying some thing which has been humiliating to us. But notice that Christ" humbled Himself". This is a most difficult thing to do.

When Christ humbled Himself He became obedient to God,therefore, the only prerequisite to humble oneself is to become obedient to God, and to obey God is to humble oneself. These two words are like twin brothers working together and you cannot have one without the other.

Satan lost his position, and was thrown from heaven to earth because of pride. Adan and Eve lost their right to stay in the garden of Eden, disobeying God, by eating the forbidden fruit. Pride never existed in heaven before the fall of Satan. Pride never existed in the garden of Eden before the fall of Adam and Eve. It means that pride never existed as long as humility and obedience abide in the hearts of God's creatures. Also there will be no pride in the present of humility and obedience to God.

Now, the big question is-how can we walk all our life with humility and obedience to God? The answer is-no one can walk all his life with humility and obedience to God by his own power. Some of us will walk with humility and obedience to God when we follow Christ. Because, only, Christ was able to walk on earth all His life with humility and obedience , then when we are following Christ, we are also walking with humility and obedience.

Another big question will be asked. How can we follow Christ then? Be filled with the Holy Spirit consistently because, only, by the power of the spirit of God through us we can follow Christ and live our life in Christ.

Another very important question will be asked. How can we be filled with the Holy Spirit consistently? Before I answer this question I want to emphasize that no one can be filled with the Holy Spirit all his life, because we are still living with our old nature, and we can still sin because our old nature is alive and always active whenever he is  given a chance to charge. But we can be filled with the Holy Spirit consistently.

Before going further, let me define the meaning of the word "consistent". According to new world dictionary of the American language -consistent means-holding always to the same principle or practice. All obedient Christians, and there is no exception, are all holding always to the same principle or practice. All obedient Christians want  to live the Christian life . They all love Jesus. Jesus said in (John 14:15) " If you love me, keep my commandments. Obedient Christians are all walking in the light, walking in fellowship with Christ. They are the followers of Christ. They all want to keep the commandments of Christ. But sometimes sin will break the fellowship with Christ, then they are to confess their sins. Jesus said to Peter yonder in the upper room, " unless I wash you , you have no part with me" (John 13-8). They don't have fellowship with Him unless they  confess their sin to Him as they go along. Their part is confession; His part is cleansing. (1 John 1-9) says-" if we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness .

The most important thing is to have fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ and to obey Him consistently, then we will be living the Christian life and filled with the Holy Spirit consistently.

I know, it is not easy to be filled with the Holy Spirit consistently, but through unceasing prayer, walking with Christ consistently, talking to Him and saying we love you Jesus, we thank you Jesus, help us Jesus, tell us what to do Jesus, then we have the assurance that we are being filled with the Holy Spirit consistently. And we are doing all of these things because we believe in the sovereignty of God who rules over our lives. This is how we follow Jesus.
